The Future of Emotion in Artificial Intelligence: Can AI Really Feel Empathy?
In a world where technology is constantly evolving, it’s no surprise that artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming more advanced and humanistic by the day. AI research and development is moving away from algorithms solely based on logic and numbers and instead introducing new concepts such as emotions, ethics, personality, and empathy.
With the ability to learn and understand human emotions, AI has already started to play a role in our lives- from customer service to healthcare.
But can AI really feel empathy? And if so, will it be more effective than AI without empathy?
Experts in the field argue that these human qualities must be integrated into AI if machines are to reach their full potential. Otherwise, they say, AI will forever remain an inferior version of a human brain.
What is Artificial Intelligence empathy?
In the context of AI, the term “empathy” refers to the ability to understand another person’s emotions and mental state. This may include being able to interpret facial expressions, body language, or tone of voice — to ultimately build up a complete picture of the other person’s feelings.
